Anorexia nervosa treatment at Oasis Counselling Centre includes eating disorder

Anorexia nervosa is a potentially fatal eating disorder characterised by an inability to stay at the minimum body weight considered healthy. This is made worse by an intense fear of weight gain, often leading to obsessive dieting and exercise.

A combination of factors can contribute to Anorexia Nervosa. Social attitudes that promote unrealistically thin body types and unhealthy attitudes towards food, coupled with emotional trauma, often underlie the compulsive behaviours associated with anorexia.

Treating anorexia nervosa requires addiction counselling which is designed to help anorexics to deal with the psychological problems associated with the eating disorder.

Symptoms of anorexia include drastic weight loss, over-exercising, fear of food and avoiding any situation which may involve food. Anorexics may become secretive and isolated and exhibit depression and rage. Anorexics display a marked obsession with their weight and shape as well as with food and calories.

Many anorexics find that they are powerless over food. Anorexics often avoid food at all times in fear that should they eat even a little, they will not be able to prevent themselves from binge eating before having to purge the food from their system

Anorexia Nervosa is an addiction similar to other addictions such as compulsive drug use or gambling.

Obsessive and compulsive behaviour forms the basis of anorexia.

Like most addictions, anorexia nervosa is progressive and incurable, but anorexia can be managed through a healthy eating regime coupled withprofessional counselling with experts.
