Is there a Cure for Addiction?
back to additional information >>
The Oasis Counselling Centre's philosophy is based on the premise that addiction is a treatable condition. Can addiction be cured? The answer is no, but like other diseases, addictions can be managed successfully.
12 Step recovery programme
An addiction is a chronic disease and the first step to breaking the cycle is admitting that you have a problem and seeking treatment. A 12 step programme facilitated by trained qualified addiction counsellors can assist the recovery process. Long-term addiction treatment achieves a lower rate of relapse.
While undergoing a 12 step recovery programme and counselling at Oasis, clients are equipped with the tools to manage their addiction once they leave the drug treatment centre. Intensive one-to-one counselling establishes the root of the dependence, helping clients to understand their addictions. Treatment includes managing anger and fear, as well as identifying relapse triggers and developing coping strategies. Examining relapse, however, does not suggest treatment failure; it is a part of the learning process that ultimately leads to recovery.
Importance of a healthy lifestyle in addiction treatment
Oasis Treatment Centre endorses healthy and active lifestyles. In-patients are encouraged to take part in sporting and healing activities and to continue with these exercise programmes post rehabilitation. These enriching activities constitute a healthy body and mind, reduce stress and enable focus. These are all factors that will assist clients in their pursuit of recovery.
Once clients have completed the primary and secondary Oasis treatment programmes they may move on to the Solar House tertiary centre. Tertiary care is recommended for additional counselling and support group therapy before stepping out into society.
Following the 12 step philosophy and lifestyle post treatment will help clients to overcome addiction and lead healthy and productive, substance-free lives.
If you think you may have a substance abuse problem or addiction, contact Oasis for information on addiction treatment programmes.
