Names have been changed to respect anonymity:
It has been a massive journey. It was sometimes painful finding out who I am yet the care of the counsellors has been incredible. My whole life has turned around. I now have a voice and opinion and am taking control of my life and setting healthy boundaries for myself and towards other people.
'Simone', 31, East London
I was taught a new way of caring for myself and other people. I understand where I'm coming from. It's been an enlightening and painful journey.
'Brian', 33, Gauteng
A tough but good experience. I learned so much. It opened doors for me and I started the process of learning honesty, how to be a good father and break the negative familial cycle. I learned about myself.
'Kieran', 22, Port Elizabeth
The hardest thing, but the best thing I have done in my life.
'Laura', 52, Western Province
I realize that everything is done for a reason - I didn't think so at the beginning. It's been life changing and has helped me enormously. It's about the inner you.
'George', 24, Bloemfontein
It is not about the addiction - it is about the person and feelings and how they act out on these. It was hard but good.
'Timothy', 46, Cambridge, UK
Great, although I had my moments with the intense therapy. It was fantastic and I have no regrets. I learned about myself and have more awareness especially around my anger. My food issues have been difficult, but I have learned to handle this.
'Naomi', 41, Durban
It's been vital in understanding myself; I had a completely distorted idea of who I was. It taught me responsibility, humility, but especially honesty. I felt 'love' here.
'Samuel', 28, Switzerland
A challenging, life-changing experience which got me to look at the behaviour that makes me want to use, and change that behaviour.
'Suki', 27, Manchester, UK
