Drug Addiction Counselling

When an addict is admitted to our drug treatment facilities at Oasis Centre for drug addiction counselling, each admission requires and receives specialised attention from our staff. At Oasis, during the treatment of drug addiction, we combine our counselling with the working of a 12 Step recovery programme as used by Narcotics Anonymous (NA). Counsellors in South Africa regularly treat clients with a 12 Step programme and therapy. At Oasis, we run a programme based on therapy, the Steps and a healthy and enriching lifestyle. We see this approach as vital to clients staying clean from drugs once they leave our drug addiction counselling centre.

When a client is admitted to Oasis Counselling Centre, special care is taken during the detoxification programme, which for some users of drugs such as opiates, barbiturates and alcohol can be fatal without a proper detox process. Drug addiction counselling at Oasis not only helps the clients to deal with their past, but also to prevent further relapse. This is done by helping them to deal with the present in a healthy and constructive fashion whilst in a safe and nurturing environment assisted by the qualified addiction councellors at our registered rehabilitation centre.

Treating Drug Addiction
Treating drug addiction also involves participation and help from the family of the addict and may involve consultation of with a professional, who will provide important intervention information. Clients at our drug rehab drug treatment centre participate in group therapy as well as one-on-one counselling with a focal counsellor, and participate in therapeutic activities. In many cases, another compulsive behavior will manifest once the influence of mind-altering substances is removed and the client is clean from chemical substances, for example, sex addiction or an eating disorder. This will also be addressed in therapy as these behaviours increase the risk of drug relapse.

It is recommended that a client seeking drug addiction counselling remains in the Oasis Counselling Centre treatment facility for a minimum of three months and possibly move on to our tertiary facility called Solar House rehab centre after treatment. Recovery from any addiction is a day-to-day process and we encourage clients at our drug treatment centre to take life "one day at a time" whilst maintaining a daily 12 Step Programme.
