Regain trust and re-build relationships
Family counselling provides an opportunity to re-establish bonds and trust between family members affected by addiction. Oasis family counsellors are qualified professionals who offer support, education and therapy to families faced with addiction.
Substance abuse and addictions do not only affect the addict: Family members endure the destructive consequences of the disease along with the addict. Family involvement is significant in the treatment of addiction, and relationship counselling is incredibly beneficial to the addict, as well as to the family members.
Family therapy sessions enable counsellors to gain insight into family relationships and how they interact with each other. Lines of communication are opened and all concerned are encouraged to verbalise their feelings and apprehensions. Through intensive family counselling, both parties can begin to heal. Oasis family counsellors also provide therapy to clients and family members exhibiting co-dependent traits.
Oasis counsellors advise family members on their behaviour and how it influences the actions of the addicted client. Often family members intend to help, but their behaviour can adversely impact or have an enabling affect on the user. Addicts exhibit obsessive and compulsive behaviours that may be exacerbated by controlling and rescuing efforts of loved ones.
Qualified addiction counsellors help families to understand the cycle of addiction, giving them the tools to cope with the addicted relative and provide constructive support. Applying these skills can effectively reduce the risk of the client relapsing post rehabilitation.
Heal the wounds inflicted by addiction with the help of family counsellors. Contact Oasis Counselling Centre to find out more about setting up an intervention, or to enquire about 12 step programmes, addiction treatment and family counselling.
