Information about Rehabilitation and Recovery from Addiction
Recovery can be a happy, rewarding and fulfilling way of life. Negative occurrences are bound to happen to everybody, but by following a Twelve Step programme, an addict can remain abstinent through tough times.
Alcohol and drug treatment centres provide a safe and nurturing environment for addicts to start a new life and begin a process of abstinence and change. The programme of every drug and alcohol treatment centre differs but the main elements are usually the same - group therapy, individual therapy, written work, meals, walks and reflection.
Treatment is available in Primary Care, Extended Primary Care, Secondary Care and Tertiary Care facilities, each allowing the client more independence. Clients who transfer from a Primary Care Centre through Secondary and Tertiary Care have an even better chance of remaining abstinent from addictive behaviours as they will have received appropriate counselling and time to process their addiction.
