Treating "Pill" Addiction - Pill Addiction Treatment and Counselling
Prescription pill addiction or prescription drug abuse involves a person trapped in an addiction to drugs available from pharmacies and doctors such as slimming tablets, painkillers and tranquilisers. In cases such as this, pill addiction treatment is usually required involving pill addiction counselling to help the addicted individual to stop.

Pill addicts or prescription drug addicts are usually involved in circumstances that are somewhat different to addicts who use illegal street drugs. Whilst addiction is a disease and the illness is one and the same for every addict inflicted, the circumstances surrounding pill addiction can be different.

Most pill addicts did not make a choice to use dangerous drugs. Usually pill addicts are prescribed drugs for pain, anxiety or weight loss and these drugs are often physically addictive. As time progresses, their tolerance levels to the effect of the drug increases, and they need to take a higher dose to have the same effect. As time goes on, the need to take more increases further and the person becomes physically dependant on consuming the drugs to be able to function normally.

Typical addict behaviour follows such as lying to doctors to get scripts, forging prescriptions, buying pills off the internet and stealing medication. Their lives become completely unmanageable and despite wanting to stop taking the pills, they cannot as the physical and mental addiction is so severe. This is when pill addiction treatment is needed.

Oasis Counselling Centre offers pill addiction treatment to prescription drug addicts and can arrange for a detoxification programme for the clients if needed. In treating pill addiction, we use intensive counselling techniques provided by qualified addiction counsellors. These include individual and group therapy. Pill addiction counselling is imperative to the successful treatment of prescription drug addiction. A healthy lifestyle is also very important to addiction recovery and we endorse healthy eating habits and enjoyable physical activity.

A 12 Step recovery programme is combined into our treatment process as a daily programme of recovery. This allows clients to begin a recovery programme during their pill addiction treatment which they will be able to continue to follow upon completing their programme at Oasis Counselling Centre.
