| The Oasis Twelve Step recovery programme is based on the Minnesota Model of Recovery. This assists our counselling methodologies, but is not the primary method or process of treatment. |
|
| At our therapy facilities in Plettenberg Bay, the emphasis is on interpersonal group therapy. This is because, according to Philip J. Flores (an expert in addiction treatment), group therapy in the addictive population has been proven to have the best outcome when combined with 12 Step recovery programmes. | ![]() |
| At Oasis we use the therapy group to help addicts deal with the array of emotions that usually accompany the first few months of abstinence. If these emotions are not treated they will often lead to the re-emergence of denial and a relapse to addictive behaviour. |

Awareness is also facilitated through workshops and lectures. Each client is assigned a counsellor to encourage the process of self-disclosure that enables the client to face themselves and give them the courage to take this to their larger group. |
| Nature and healthy living are important components of our addiction treatment programme. |

Some retreats for addiction counselling in South Africa do not use the 12 Step recovery programme. However in our personal and professional experience, our therapy methodologies, which include a 12 Step programme, offer a much higher success rate for clients. |
